The Marathon Anniversary

The Marathon Live Visual Album contains previously unseen content and audio interviews, featuring a recreation of Hussle’s vehicle — a Mercedes SL550 — that travels to Los Angeles neighborhoods and landmarks that were integral to the making of the 2010 mixtape.

I was contacted by Nipsey’s former tour manager and photographer Jorge Peniche to concept and create an experience that commemorates the launch of The Marathon Mixtape on the 10-year anniversary. The goal was to capture the superhero essence that Nipsey had established in Los Angeles at this time and bring the viewers into the world of Nipsey in this era that changed his trajectory as a musician and businessman. We recreated Nipsey’s iconic vehicle and a lot of the landmarks Nipsey frequented and some historic Los Angeles sites using Jorge Peniche’s photography, Google Maps, 3D-modeling software, and made it beautiful and interactive in Unreal Engine. Along the way, clips and recordings of Nipsey Hussle would be projected within the virtual environment. In addition, voice recordings from the interviews I hosted with his friends and family would play in an omnipresent fashion to contextualize the world and Nipsey’s attitude and perserverence at this time.
